There are more than 200,000 people affected by leprosy are still facing great challenges of poverty , physical disability and social discrimination in China. Among them, over 20,000 people are stilll living in isolated villages. For many years, they have been isolated. Most of their friends and relatives live far away from them, hence they only have their fellow villagers to rely on for friendships, helping and encouraging each other. Even though, most of them suffer from different degrees of disabilities, they are still striving to be independent, learning different skills to survive, and enriching themselves’ life with different forms of entertainments.
To care, understand and accept the people affected by leprosy and finally to eliminate the stigma and discrimination against them.It needs the effort of every member. Let’s work hand in hand so that they will overcome all the difficulties and reintegrate into society, as we all belive that “every person is born free and equal in dignity and human rights”.
